On April 30, 2015, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy released its most current statistics on personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal filings for Canadian consumer debtors.
Canada – there were 64,198 personal bankruptcies and 53,930 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 9,844 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 6.2% and consumer proposal filings were up 7.8% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.
New Brunswick – there were 2,945 personal bankruptcies and 1,291 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 353 per month. Bankruptcies were up 3.7% and proposal filings were up 12% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.
Nova Scotia – there were 3,746 personal bankruptcies and 1,508 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 438 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 12.4% and consumer proposal filings were up 6.6% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.
Prince Edward Island – there were 499 personal bankruptcies and 213 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 59 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 11.9% and consumer proposal filings were up 10.9% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.
