On August 29, 2014, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy released its most current statistics on personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal filings for Canadian consumer debtors.
Canada – there were 66,810 personal bankruptcies and 50,997 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended June 30, 2014, for average total filings of approximately 9,817 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 4.0% and consumer proposals filings were up 6.8% as compared to the 12-months ended June 30, 2013.
New Brunswick – there were 2,892 personal bankruptcies and 1,247 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended June 30, 2014, for average total filings of approximately 345 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 4.4% and consumer proposals filings were up 28.8% as compared to the 12-months ended June 30, 2013.
Nova Scotia – there were 3,459 personal bankruptcies and 1,476 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended June 30, 2014, for average total filings of approximately 411 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 11.4% and consumer proposals filings were up 22.4% as compared to the 12-months ended June 30, 2013.
Prince Edward Island – there were 476 personal bankruptcies and 214 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended June 30, 2014, for average total filings of approximately 58 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 4.4% and consumer proposals filings were up 58.5% as compared to the 12-months ended June 30, 2013.
