On June 30, 2015, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy released its most current statistics on personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal filings for Canadian consumer debtors.
Canada – there were 64,276 personal bankruptcies and 55,143 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended April 30, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 9,952 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 5% and consumer proposal filings were up 9% as compared to the 12-months ended April 30, 2014.
New Brunswick – there were 2,943 personal bankruptcies and 1,331 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended April 30, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 356 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 2.2% and consumer proposal filings were up 8.6% as compared to the 12-months ended April 30, 2014.
Nova Scotia – there were 3,792 personal bankruptcies and 1,515 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended April 30, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 442 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 12.9% and consumer proposal filings were up 3.1% as compared to the 12-months ended April 30, 2014.
Prince Edward Island – there were 509 personal bankruptcies and 244 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended April 30, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 63 per month. Personal bankruptcies were up 10.9% and consumer proposal filings were up 18.4% as compared to the 12-months ended April 30, 2014.
