On December 31, 2015, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy released its most current statistics on personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal filings for Canadian consumer debtors.
Canada – there were 63,317 personal bankruptcies and 57,106 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended October 31, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 10,035 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 2.7% and consumer proposal filings were up 8.8% as compared to the 12-months ended October 31, 2014.
New Brunswick – there were 2,884 personal bankruptcies and 1,488 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended October 31, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 364 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 2.4% and consumer proposal filings were up 18% as compared to the 12-months ended October 31, 2014.
Nova Scotia – there were 3,636 personal bankruptcies and 1,516 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended October 31, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 429 per month. Personal bankruptcies were down 0.2% and consumer proposal filings were up 3.1% as compared to the 12-months ended October 31, 2014.
Prince Edward Island – there were 484 personal bankruptcies and 289 consumer proposals filed in the 12-months ended October 31, 2015, for average total filings of approximately 64 per month. Personal Bankruptcies were down 6.9% and consumer proposal filings were up 37.6% as compared to the 12-months ended October 31, 2014.
